I get a variation of this question a lot in my coaching programs. I am just a real avid supporter of article marketing (almost all of my first time visitors come from article marketing) and so naturally when I coach and teach, I recommend article marketing. But sometimes what happens is that someone writes 5 articles and posts them to the article directories and gets...a few subscribers to their site - and then they become discouraged. They think, well I can get 100 subscribers a day with PPC. And of course that is true - I can get 500 or more per day with PPC.

But the difference is the PPC ones just don't convert like the article marketing ones.

And the bigger difference is that those same 5 articles will continue to generate subscribers in one month, 6 months, and 12 months.

I still get traffic from articles I posted to the top article directories 2 years ago! So it is really difficult to compare first day or even first month results between article marketing and PPC.

Here is another thought. Imagine that in your niche you can get clicks in PPC for just 50 cents each. And let's imagine that your conversion rate on your PPC opt in page is 20%. So that means it costs you $2.50 per subscriber.

Let's contrast that with article marketing. Let's say that it costs you $10 per article to have an article written for you. Your break even point compared to PPC is just 4 subscribers per article. What if you only got one subscriber per month from article marketing?

So the first month you pay $10 for the article, submit it to the top article directories and it generates 1 subscriber. So the first month you are in the hole $7.5 compared to PPC. The second month you get another subscriber so you are in the hole $5. The third month..you get the picture. At the fourth month you break even with PPC. But here is where the real impact happens...the fifth month you average subscriber cost is down to $2. The 10th month it is down to $1. And it just continues.

Here is what I recommend. Write and submit at least 100 articles to the article directory mentioned above. Submit them at the rate of 5 per day for 20 days. Put a dedicated tracking link in the bio so that you can track every subscriber and every sale that comes in from all those articles. Within several months you will almost definitely see that the ROI for article marketing is much higher than with PPC. Just do it - you will be surprised at the results!
